Masoor Dal ( Split Red Lentil ) ke Pakoda

Masoor dal vada or Rasmi vada is a evening snack. It’s made with 2 types of lentils and veggies so that its healthy and very l’tle junky you can say ;).  You can serve it with sour curd or any dip you love especially for kids for more options  please scroll down :).  I heard from one of my friend that its prepared in Himachal during winter.


1 1/4 cup Masoor dal ( Split red lentils )

1-2 tbsp Urad dal

1 tbsp ginger paste ( garlic optional)

1-2 tbsp green chilies chopped

1/4 cup chopped coriander

1/4 cup onion

1 tbsp chili powder

Pinch of turmeric powder

1/2 tsp cumin ( jeera)

Salt as per taste

Oil to deep fry




Wash and soak both dal for atleast 3 hours, then Drain and grind the dal into thick paste ( If needed add few drops of water). Add other ingredients like chili, ginger,onion , coriander, chili powder, salt ,turmeric, cumin ( cumin gives nice flavor as well as aroma when it get fried in oil ) and mix it . Heat the oil in a pan and once oil is hot, with the help of small spoon take the batter and put it into oil and when it turn golden brown in color take it out on kitchen napkin to remove the excess oil if there is any.

You can always Serve it with mint chutney, tamarind chutney , Amchur Chutney along with tea. It tastes yum! Slurp! Slurp! especially when its raining out and all you want is a cup of tea, Pakoda’s and good company 🙂

   You can also make chila, Adai/crepe also with the same batter. You can add many more veggies to make it healthy. You can also replace Urad dal with besan or Rice flour.
